What Are Dermal Fillers and What Can They Treat?

Have you started to notice that certain areas of your face aren’t as filled out or lifted as they were ten years ago? The aging process can have different effects on the face. Loss of fat can cause cheeks and temples to look more sallow and increased laxity in the skin can cause certain areas to begin to sag or to develop more lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers are a non-surgical way to help your face to look more youthful and refreshed. They can be perfect for deep lines and wrinkles in the face, loss of volume, sagging skin, and much more. At Hector L Di Carlo, MD, PA, we provide dermal filler services in Fort Lauderdale, FL to help our patients feel more confident as they age.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a product that is designed to fill in space under the epidermis and to restore volume to some of the areas that have lost fat and collagen. They can help to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by better supporting the skin and allowing the surface of the skin to be smooth.

Dermal fillers can also be used as a non-surgical facelift to help lift areas that have begun to sag as a result of skin laxity and gravity. These biocompatible products can offer many of the benefits of more invasive treatments without downtime.

What Are the Different Types of Dermal Fillers?

Since dermal fillers can be any type of injectable product that helps to fill in facial features or provide facial contouring, there are many different types of dermal fillers that are made from different materials. At our practice, we offer hyaluronic acid fillers because of their versatility and their ability to look very natural under the skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers are made from a material that is found in the body so they can be used in a wide variety of patients. The two HA fillers that we offer are Juvéderm® and Revanesse® Versa™.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm offers a wide range of HA fillers that can be used in many different areas of the face. These fillers come in different thicknesses to help treat a variety of concerns, and they all include lidocaine to reduce discomfort during injections. Certain of the Juvéderm fillers feature Vycross technology which results in a smooth product that can look very natural under the skin.

Revanesse Versa

Revanesse Versa is another HA filler that we use to help correct volume loss and wrinkles. This product is unique in that it has spherical particles of hyaluronic acid that are all the same size and shape. The benefit of this formula is that it can last longer than other hyaluronic acid filler products and it can come with less swelling after injections. It can be a great choice if you want a fast treatment that can be done during your lunch hour with no social downtime. We use fillers to help treat the mouth and the nose in individuals who are over 22.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Because of differences in body chemistry, it is difficult to know exactly how long each filler will last in your situation. The amount of time a filler can last will depend on many different factors such as how much product is used and how fast your body can break it down. Both Revanesse Versa and Juvéderm can provide long-lasting results but the effects will wear off over time as the filler is dissolved.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers Under the Eyes

A common area for dermal fillers to be used is the area under the eyes. Dark circles and shadows because of deep tear troughs can cause you to look tired or older than you are. When comparing pictures of your face before and after dermal fillers under the eyes, you may notice that you look brighter and more awake after treatment.

Dermal Fillers for Lips

If you want to augment your lips, Juvéderm can produce a beautiful result. Dermal fillers for the lips are good products because the results are very customizable. If you want a plump look, we can use more products in your lips. If you want subtle augmentation that still retains your natural lip shape, you can opt for a subtle treatment. If one side of your lips is larger than the other, we can also use lip fillers to make the shape and size of your lips more even.

Dermal Fillers for Cheeks

Dermal fillers are commonly used in the cheeks to restore the rounded shape that is associated with youth. They can also be used to make cheekbones more prominent. Juvéderm Voluma® XC can be ideal for use in the cheeks.

Dermal Fillers for Nasolabial Folds

If you have deep lines or skin laxity in the lower part of your face, dermal fillers can help to refresh these areas. These treatments can also augment the chin or create a more defined jawline without surgery.
